PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airlines will partner the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) to fly the Malaysian team to the Games of the XXXII Olympiad, or Tokyo 2020.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airlines will partner the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) to fly the Malaysian team to the Games of the XXXII Olympiad, or Tokyo 2020.
In a statement issued on July 3, Malaysia Airlines said that with the partnership, Malaysia Airlines will be ferrying the officials and national contingent competing in ten (10) competitive sports at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
The first set of athletes is expected to depart Kuala Lumpur on July 8 via MH070, the second set on July 17 via MH9118 and the third set will depart on July 20 via MH070.
Among the athletes who will be travelling are Malaysia Airlines brand ambassadors and national divers – Pandelela Rinong Pamg and Nur Dhabitah Sabri, Malaysia Airlines said in a statement Saturday (July 3).
Malaysia Airlines group chief executive officer Captain Izham Ismail said they are committed to ensuring the safety and health of the team.
As the national airline, we are honoured to be given the trust to fly our national contingent across the globe as the nations flag bearers through sporting events.
We successfully transported the national football squad, Harimau Malaya, recently to their World Cup 2022 and Asia Cup 2023 qualifier in UAE and Bahrain.
We remain committed to offering the highest standards of safety and hygiene every step of the way throughout the flight to ensure the national athletes can fly confidently and be at ease to perform during the games, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
OCM secretary-general Datuk Mohd Nazifuddin said it was important that a world-class national carrier fly the team to Tokyo.

Tokyo 2020 will feature 339 events in 33 sports and will be held from July 23 to Aug 8.
