Dean Ashton believes questions will be raised by Tottenham fans over Jose Mourinhos style of play if they lose to Leeds on Saturday.
Spurs started out the season as early league leaders and were mentioned as possible title contenders.
Tottenhams style of play under Mourinho has split opinion
Mourinho has Tottenham playing a style of play that was more defensive than fans were used to under Mauricio Pochettino.
It was effective at first but they are now without a win in their last four Premier League games.
Spurs come up against Marcelo Bielsas Leeds on Saturday – with commentary of the 12.30pm match live on talkSPORT – with the Whites able to go level on points with the north London club.
The hosts can ill-afford a defeat, according to ex-England striker Ashton.
He thinks Tottenham fans will get frustrated by Mourinhos style should they lose and will look on at newly-promoted Leeds with envy.
He told talkSPORT Breakfast: Its the intrigue and the differing in styles between the two managers. If Leeds win they go level on points with Tottenham.
You would expect Tottenham supporters to be thinking hang on, the sort of football were watching with the squad weve got and the manager weve got and we play a team who plays that brand of football, is level on points with us and has just come up from the Championship. You start to wonder as fans I think.
Leeds games are averaging nearly four goals so far this season
Leeds have been anything but dull this season. Only two teams (Liverpool and Man United) have scored more than their 30 goals while West Brom are the only team who have conceded more than them.
Spurs have conceded 15 goals fewer than Leeds but find themselves just three points better off.
Leeds are also averaging 15.1 shots per game and enjoy 57.6 per cent possession compared to Tottenhams 10.7 shots and 49 per cent possession.
Ashton also believes that Bielsa’s side are benefitting from playing behind closed doors with the players able to play freely without the pressure of the Elland Road crowd.
He added: Without the supporters there, it has certainly helped Leeds in terms of the pressure in terms of playing in front of those supporters.
They certainly showed that the season they didnt go up. I think the pressure of Leeds United Football Club and the expectation there was maybe too much for some of the players.
Leeds have played scintillating football at times this season
Theyve grown up as a team and they are still some of the same players from when Bielsa took over the club but I cannot believe the fitness levels of these players.
As players, we maybe dont understand how far we can take our bodies and get to certain levels because sometimes we dont like hard work.
Leeds and Bielsa have shown players and their fitness levels can get to unbelievable levels.
