Bologna left-back Aaron Hickey confirms Bayern Munich and Celtic wanted to sign him in the summer and claims Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson is his ‘role model.’
The 18-year-old joined Bologna from Heart of Midlothian last summer and rejected moves to Bayern Munich and Celtic.
“Bayern are a great club but Bologna are massive,” Hickey told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I’m sure I chose a big club. The thing that most convinced me is the family atmosphere that I felt immediately. I had a very good feeling. Manchester City didn’t want to sign me, Celtic did.”
The Scottish defender has already played eight games in all competitions under Sinisa Mihajlovic.
“Playing in Serie A is like landing on the moon, it’s amazing. The best league in the world. A game lasts 97 minutes and you always need to remain focused with many tactical duties. Mihajlovic trusts me, he gives me advices on how to defend and attack, without fear.”
Bologna face Inter at the Stadio Meazza tomorrow.
“I like [Romelu] Lukaku and [Christian] Eriksen, we need to believe in ourselves to make a good result in Milan.”
Hickey hopes to play for senior Scotland team one day with Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson.
“He is my role model,” Hickey said.
“Kieran Tierney is his back-up but I can also play on the right. I dream to win the World Cup and buy a big house.”
